2005/2006. What is this? Rubbing my eyes, checking the cover of DVD -
Chevaliers du ciel, Les - yes, it is a french movie. Like so many
Hollywood cookings, much aerial stunts, breath-taking sky- punctures
through clouds and blue pilots heaven. Seen so many fighter-movies, but
this is a bullseye. Not for a story - many weak characters, but the real
bold ones, the planes themselves.

Storyline
After an explosion on their moon, the Klingons have an estimated 50 years before their ozone layer is completely depleted, and they all die. They have only one choice - to make peace with the Federation, which will mean an end to 70 years of conflict. Captain James T. Kirk and crew are called upon to help in the negotiations because of their experience with the Klingons. Peace talks don't quite proceed, and Kirk and McCoy are convicted of assassinating the Klingon High Chancellor, and imprisoned on Rura Penthe, a snowy hard-labor prison camp. Will they manage to escape? And will there ever be peace with the Klingons?Movie Reviews
This is a taut political thriller that rivals Dune for impact, if not for complexity. The issues explored here are both timely and universal. Somehow, this mixes the Star Trek mythos with commentary on the Cold War, race relations and military down-sizing. It is indescribable how cool this movie is.

Storyline
In the summer of 1979, a group of friends in a small Ohio town witness a catastrophic train crash while making a super 8 movie and soon suspect that it was not an accident. Shortly after, unusual disappearances and inexplicable events begin to take place in town, and the local Deputy tries to uncover the truth - something more terrifying than any of them could have imagined.Movie Reviews
The
concept of "Super 8" is combining the elements of J.J. Abrams and
Steven Spielberg. The trailer made you think it's like E.T. plus
Cloverfield. Well, it's true. There is nothing new about "Super 8" but
it brought us back to the good old classic times, it's funny, it's
exciting, and it's amazing.
"Super 8" is another intriguing
monster movie by J.J. Abrams. Yes, you really wanna know what it looks
like but I'm not gonna tell you. The sad thing is it's not as intriguing
as Cloverfield. But It's easy to ignore that problem because there is
something better than being another Cloverfield. It feels like you are
watching a good old classic movie. Great characters, Good old fashion
score, and kids intrigued by the situation.
The story is really
about the characters' zombie movie making and the family tragedy while
there's a monster attacking their town. The monster is like the
background or the subplot of this film. But the movie still got
suspense. The movie is indeed beautiful and plenty of heart. The movie
is just nostalgic stuff. It's not trying to be new. It just wants to
show how J.J. Abrams is inspired by Steven Spielberg's movies.
There
are some amazing scenes in this film. Example, the train collision was
breathtaking. The movie sure has a lot of humor. It's like a relic to
the old family movies. The CGI is good enough. The performances were
good. The kids gave a lot of personality to their roles.
"Super
8" is a J.J. Abrams film with Spielberg's trademarks all over it. It's
not a blockbuster that has a lot of action and less talking. This movie
is made in old fashion style. Yep, this movie is nostalgic if you saw
Spielberg's old movies and it's good to see another one like it.
Note: There is something interesting in the credits. You might wanna check it out.

You
aren't going to get a more aesthetic movie than this: the actors (wow,
Antonio and Catherine Zeta both in the same movie -- Anjelina &
Brad, eat your hearts out -- no contest!), the costumes, the lighting,
the villa and townscapes, and the sheer beauty of the location, day and
night.
Antonio looks a little more "mature" than I've seen him in
awhile, but he's no less smoldering and charming on the screen. He's a
natural for playing Zorro. The athleticism of Zorro is pretty impressive
too. Lots of leaps, flips, and creative uses of his whip.
Catherine-Zeta
is breathtakingly beautiful, as always. Those eyes of hers... It's
enjoyable to see her in a maternal role. I love her costumes! It's good
to see her multi-tasking.
Their son, Joaquim, is outstanding.
Child stars usually make me gag, but this kid has genuine talent, and
the person(s) filming and editing have admirably captured it.
The main bad guy (the one with the mansion) is intriguing as well. Not sure who he is but I hope to see more of him.
The
other villain is, plain and simple, unidimensional, which is typical of
adventure type movies. No surprises there. The way he meets his end is
creative.
The Horse. Wow.
The political framework of the plot worked well for the movie.

Now the veteran agent Harry Shaw offers freedom to Snow if he succeeds in rescuing the president's daughter. But the idealistic Emilie does not want to leave MS-One without the hostages.Movie Reviews
I
loved this fun thriller, especially Guy Pearce as a wise-cracking agent
sent to rescue the President's daughter from outer-space prison, where
she's been making a charity visit.
There's lots of humour
(especially in the first scenes - it's like Pearce is doing a Philip
Marlowe impression) and the action is non-stop.
I was a bit
puzzled that the inmates in America's top-security prison all seemed to
be from Glasgow and that it seemed to be co-starring George Galloway,
but the performances are great. Pearce is really cool and the psycho
prisoner acts his socks off.
If you're used to watching
thrillers, you'll guess a lot of the plot turns but overall I believe it
deserves to be getting a lot better reviews. Overall, it was great fun.

i know, lots and lots have been said about Michael Bay Movies already. Let me add a little more to it.
There
is a certain empty feeling that only a Michael Bay "Masterpiece" is
able to produce. An empty feeling that is completely void of any
pleasure or pain or happiness or sadness or any other emotion
whatsoever. All that you are left with after watching a MB Movie is
"Meh".
He does not disappoint this time either.
Story is
Meh, acting is Meh, Character Development is Meh and so on. With the
only notable exception of the action of course. However since everything
around the action is Meh, the action becomes Meh too.
Bad Guys
have super powers, they are super Generic run of the Mill. The good Guys
also have super Powers...no really, they are Bullet Proof. Hell even
the Movie has super Powers, it super Sucks.
I was going to give
it 3 Stars for the Action but thinking about it, I change my mind. For
practically raping a beloved childhood franchise, 0 Stars (if possible)
would have been a compliment.

OK
so this was one of those films that I tripped over. It was amongst a
list of supposedly "worthy" sci-fi action films in the SMH one day about
three months ago. Now I pay to go see films in the cinema that I know I
want to see. But films that I couldn't be bothered seeing or paying for
but still have a curiosity over - I download using bit torrent. And so
it was that this film (along with some of the others) came my way.
Now
I wish I had paid for it. Because it certainly is worth a proper
screening! This film was a welcome breath of fresh air film making in
the tradition of Aussie films where character development and story
telling mean more than explosions. That's not to say that the explosions
weren't good - they were - but this film brings back a rare thing
nowadays in feature films - emotion.
Give this film a go. It's
under rated, very delightful to watch and quintessentially Australian.
Watching it, you begin to truly believe that "hey that could be my town,
my son, my house". It challenges and yet entertains. And most of all,
it's simple to watch. You don't need an arts degree to enjoy it - it
flows over you.
Be patient with the beginning (like many Aussie
films and old cars, it takes a while to get warmed up). In the end, I
couldn't fault this film. It's one of the rare recent releases that I
know will be watched again and again.
